Information from District Executive Officers

International Convention in Orlando, Florida: August 15-18, 2012

Kazuko Kawauchi, DTM
District76 Governor, 2012-2013
Toastmasters International Convention 2012 was held in Orland, Florida at Hilton Bonnet Creek Resort Hotel from August 15 through 18. This is a report on the convention to share some information with you on how it went.
On behalf of members of District 76, we the District Trio - District Governor Kazuko Kawauchi, Lieutenant Governor Education and Training Kiichiro Ohmi and Lieutenant Governor Marketing Tsuneo Kato - participated in the convention to learn more about the organization and its governance including elections of our new leaders. Please click on the link to virtually enjoy watching the highlights of Board Briefing, Opening Ceremony, International Speech Contest Semifinals in which our representative TM Howser participated (Contest 1) and made an excellent speech, and World Championship of Public Speaking on the last day.  TM Ryan Avery from Oregon became the champion of 2012, and you will see his photo on the front page of next version of the Contest Rulebook.
In the Hall of Fame on the second day, our District 76 was recognized as achiever of President’s Distinguished District as one of the Toastmasters’ top-achieving districts. It is the highest honor that we were awarded. Immediate Past District Governor Bunzo Suzuki,
Lieutenant Governor Education and Training 2011-2012 Kazuko Kawauchi and Lieutenant Governor Marketing 2011-2012 Kiichiro Ohmi were invited to the stage and were presented with each award by the then International President Michael Notaro DTM. Members who came from Japan were also invited to the stage. Thank you very much for these membes to come all the way from Japan and joined us. Please see the photo above.
During the convention, we the trio were actively involved in activities with other districts’ officers to learn their best practices of how they serve their members, and more importantly we spoke with incumbent and past International Officers, International Directors and Region Advisors in order to raise awareness about District 76 and its members. They are quite interested in our members and opportunites of the district.
Prior to the convention, the trio participated in a two-day incentive training from early morning till late in the evening to learn more about Toastmasters International’s education program, money management and governance. We also learned other various matters through discussions. Before concluding the training on the second day, all districts were requested to make a seven-minute presentation on their five-year plan to select one best district from 14 regions in the world. Our District 76 team made a presentation that there are enormous marketing opportunities and our future is very bright. The presentation was favorably accepted with a round of applause though we missed the best award which we had received last time.
We District Trio will capitalize on our experience this time and are determined to work effectively and enthusiatically for members of District 76. We hope that you will achieve your personal goals and realize your dream through Toastmasters’ activities this term, too, by achieving educational awards. Let’s work together and achieve the President Distinguished District Award this term again!
