Dear members of District 76.
Happy New Year! How are you doing this New Year holiday?
Last year, we met with a huge disaster in the Tohoku region. It was an unforgettable year. It was also a year when we felt we were not alone after receiving sympathy letters from International President Pat Johnson DTM, and many other toastmasters. I hope to keep up the strong bonds between the people of Japan and our toastmasters friends all over the world.

I’d like to report to you that District 76 has achieved incredible results in spite of our serious situation. We are now top ranked in the world for growth in membership and number of clubs.
First, we achieved No.1 ranking in the world in October due to our membership retention rate of 83%. Second, we already achieved our goal for the number of clubs growing from 106 to 110, which is ranked No.2 in the world. Third, we are No.2 ranked in the world for the highest percent of clubs with 20+ members.
I believe toastmasters of the world are looking at us with wonderment and amazement at how Japan has achieved such surprising results. These results are no accident. These are the accumulated results of continuing efforts at regular club meetings and the devoted activity of new club builders and supporters. I have to give a special thanks to all of you.
I said to you “Expand Your Horizons!” at my first greeting of this term. Can you expand your horizons in the next half year? For example, will you be able to attend prospective or other club meetings, support club officer roles, try new advanced manuals, or attend overseas conferences or the world convention? How would you like to step out of your comfort zone? By taking this step, your personal growth will be faster. This step will lead us closer to our goals and Toastmasters global connections will grow.
This year, I hope we can all continue to enjoy our Toastmasters activities and achieve personal growth together.
